We had planned to do something other than chilling out today, mix it up a little. Chris joined Chaggie in a trip to the Antarctic Centre, next to Christchurch Airport. We woke up at 10:00ish and had breakfast. It got to 12:00 and we got in the car, Chino drove to Pip and Andreas's to pick up Graeme who was joining us for the day.
Once we picked Graeme up, the four of us paid and got in, it was pretty expensive at $65! First of all we checked out the 4D experience, something that has been advertised a lot around Christchurch. It's something Chaggie have done before, watching a film where the chairs move about as a simulator, then you get sprayed in the face with water in time with what's shown on screen. It was alright but not as great as we expected, only lasting 10 minutes. It sprays way too much water in your face so by the 5th time, your a little wet.
Once we had done the 4D experience, we checked out the Antarctic Experience, walking into a room that is soon to be pretty damn cold, with winds up to 40km/h. We chose to wear one of the included ski jackets that they recommend you wear when going through to the Antarctic Storm. The lights dimmed out, the temperature decreased and a wind increased...We survived, Phill managed in shorts so it wasn't amazing. Didn't take long to be out again, we checked out the gallery and had a look at the Penguins they have there, unfortunately they weren't up to much. Typical.
The last thing to do at the Antarctic Centre was to have a ride on the Hagglund they have. We were on it for about 10 mins, Chris and Chino in the back whilst Phill and Graeme belted up in the front. It was pretty damn good, a fantastic vehicle that went up and down some steep gravel hills as well as travelling over gaps and trenches, it even drove through water depths up to 3 metres. So we ended on a high, wasn't worth $65 though.
On the way home we offered Graeme to drive the Honda back to Pip and Andreas's place where we would say goodbye to Graeme till March. He took up the chance and drove us to an Ice Cream shop on the way back. We then drove to a shopping centre, Chaggie had already planned to cook a meal for Giles and Liz this evening so needed some ingredients. We said goodbye to Graeme here as he planned to walk back, not too far from where we were. So we said our goodbyes, pretty emotional..after a few man hugs we had started our shopping, leaving Graeme to a short walk back. Chaggie bought pasta, pesto, sour cream, garlic bread and some crumble for pudding. Staggie likes making his pasta dishes. When in the queue to pay for our shopping, who did we run into..Graeme, who had quickly done a bit of shopping himself, so in the end we drove him back for one more goodbye.
Chris drove the Honda back from Pip and Andreas's house, Chaggie got cooking (well Phill did). Chino would help out when needed whilst updating the blog as much as he could. Dinner was done for 18:00, we had given Giles and Liz time to chill out and not have to worry about cooking. It was a delicious meal with good crumble afterwards.
This evening Chino continued with his blogging whilst Phill and Chris shot a few eggs again with BB's. A little later on, Chris and Chaggie went to pick up Josh from work at the mall. Now the plan was to meet up with some old school friends of Chaggie's. Lauren and Holly who had recently arrived in New Zealand and had been in contact with Staggie to say their in Christchurch. Once we had picked up Josh we went and met up with the girls. It was good to catch up with them this evening and was weird seeing them here. We chilled out at the top of the hill with some great views of Christchurch at night. We dropped them off at around 23:00, then dropped off Josh.
Chaggie and Chris continued back home where we stayed up for a while with Beth and her friend. We went to bed at around 01:00 ready to pack again after a fantastic, chilled out week.
Chaggie x
