Today was our Glacier hike, we were looking forward to it. Chino woke up with his cold that was still pretty rough. Luckily we had only got the half day trip in store.
We had a lay in till 11:00, was well needed. Then checked in for the trip at 12:30, we got our gear including boots, crampons, rain jacket, trousers, warm socks and gloves. We changed into it all and caught the bus to the glacier. Today had a lot of walking, due to the Glacier receding, it was a 2.5km walk, not what Chino wanted to hear.
That got us to the glacier, the next part was pretty amazing. We attached our crampons to our boots and headed up the glacier, was an experience we won't forget. This country has so much to offer, earlier on in the week we were in Queenstown on a hot summers day, the next after just a few hours of driving your on a glacier hike.
We had a couple of hours on the ice, making sure lots of photos and video were taken. Was a really good trip, the half day was the best decision. It was a long walk back to the bus, we got back to YHA at 18:00ish. Made some dinner around 21:00, same as last night using left overs, after dinner we had a game of pool and chilled out for the rest of the night.Chaggie x
